Ghost hunt held at the Red Mill Museum, Aug 4

From NJ.com:  Ghost hunt held at the Red Mill Museum

Do ghosts really exist? Scream Paranormal Research seems to think so. This professional paranormal team has been investigating cases on the paranormal for more than five years now. Although the team has investigated notable locations throughout the United States, they usually stay within the New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania area.

Leading this paranormal investigative team is Director and Founder, Chris Nicoletti. "We like to help educate and inform the public on the fact that the paranormal is real," Chris Nicoletti said. "What causes different types of this phenomenon is still a mystery to us, but there is definitely something happening. On many occasions, we have seen and heard things that defy a typical explanation."

With over hundreds of investigations that the team has conducted over the years, the team seems to believe that most cases they are contacted about usually hold a bit of truth. "Whether there is actually a true haunting going on or not, 9 times out of 10, that person believes what they are experiencing is real. We are there to help collect evidence and present our findings to the client."

So, is Chris and his team scared of the unknown? "Not really," Nicoletti stated. "We may get creeped out from time to time, but scared of ghosts? No. Bats on the other hand... that's a different story."

Scream Paranormal Research will be hosting a public ghost hunt at the Red Mill Museum in Clinton on Saturday, Aug. 4 at 8 p.m. For more information regarding this public event, go to screamparanormalresearch.blogspot.com.

Malaysia: A new breed of ghost busters

From New Straits Times:  A new breed of ghost busters

PARANORMAL CONSULTANTS: A new generation of young ghost hunters are trying to break social taboos by offering property-related services and consultancydes

.

Not many 25-year-olds have the luxury of mixing business with pleasure. Ahmad Adam Aliff @ AdamVai is one of them, but even rarer is his chosen vocation. Adam is a budding ghost hunter and a self-proclaimed spiritual consultant.

He dispenses spiritual advice, communications, healing and a slew of other paranormal services. Adam’s past clients have included property owners, buyers and developers who encountered supernatural obstacles.
For leisure, he organises group excursions and tours to haunted buildings and sites all over the Klang Valley with his posse of ghost hunting aficionados.

When we met up for teh tarik, I was half-expecting a deeply religious person with raised eyebrows and a devilish stare. After all, in his blog adamvai. blogspot.com, he had proclaimed himself to be a ghost buster who hunts down demons and jinn.

He turned out to be a friendly and well-mannered guy. He regaled me with tales of his paranormal escapades and provided some insight into his methods. Make no mistake, though, this man takes his ghost hunting very seriously.

How I started: It’s a God-given talent. I’ve had this gift since I was five years old. I’ve been healing and helping people out in spiritual matters since I was 15 years old. It runs in the family — my grandfather also had the gift. My clients are solely through word-of-mouth and references from other clients. For the past few years, I have committed myself to pursuing this as a full-fledged career. I am very passionate about it and see untapped potential in the paranormal industry.

What I do: I help people from all walks of life, regardless of their religion or race, who are facing various supernatural scenarios. Some property buyers will call me to check on a building or property, even though there’s no rumour of any ghosts or spirits. They just want to take precautionary measures and secure the property for their families. Some property owners might have difficulty renting out their houses and suspect supernatural factors at play. These are just a couple of the possible scenarios.
Sometimes property developers will contact me before they commence any project to ask me to sweep the area for any undesirable entities. Others will call me after a project has started. For example, in one development project, the contractor was having trouble clearing some trees. The tractors would mysteriously break down or their workers would suddenly fall ill. It might sound ridiculous, but it was seriously hampering the project. I was called in to assist.

My methods: I would first conduct a scientific analysis of the problematic area to filter out other possibilities. For example, some problems are caused by soil and geological factors which have nothing to do with ghosts or spirits at all.

After a thorough examination, if there is no logical explanation, I try to diagnose any spiritual interference.
If I detect any intrusive entities, I will try to negotiate with them. God willing, I am able to communicate with these spiritual entities. You have to be able to control the spirits’ energy to solve the problem. Some spirits are passive, some are aggressive. I believe we are all God’s creations — both humans and spirits — and we should respect each other. That is always the basis to all my spiritual communications.
I do not believe in exaggerating or scaring people with horror stories. I try to explain things calmly and scientifically to my clients. Every view has to be balanced — like yin and yang.
My ambitions: I have a deep passion for the paranormal and would love to develop it into a respectable industry in the country. Maybe Malaysian society is not ready to accept these activities into the mainstream, but the potential gains for the tourism industry, for example, is huge. In England and other places in Europe, ghosts and haunted tours are major tourist attractions for visitors who want to experience something different. Malaysia has plenty of historical and heritage sites with paranormal activity. There is no reason why we can’t capitalise on this commercially.

Advice to property buyers: Do the simple things well. Check the history and background of a house or building extensively. Chat with neighbours, agents, brokers, friends and contractors. You don’t always get the true picture from formal sources. Always get a second or third opinion. Do not rush into things unnecessarily. Check the newspapers and internet for additional information. If ever in doubt, call a spiritual consultant.

UK: North Cumbrian pupils bring Border history to life in a movie

From News & Star:  North Cumbrian pupils bring Border history to life in a movie

The youngsters from Brampton’s William Howard School are producing a film involving the legendary Reivers and starring the infamous Carlisle Cursing Stone.
It is set to be entered into Keswick Film Festival for the Golden Osprey Award, dedicated to films with a local setting.
The project is being led by pupils and supervised the school’s video production teacher Sarah Ledger.
She explained: “It’s a ghost story. It is basically about a ghost hunter who is investigating a story he has heard about and he goes to Hermitage Castle (in Newcastleton) to investigate the story further.
“He gets there and all sorts of scary things happen.”
The film, entitled The Reiver’s Curse starts at the Cursing Stone, which provides inspiration for the hunt.
Installed in 2001, it has been blamed for many of the misfortunes that have since affected the city.
The hunter’s investigations take him into the history of the Border Reivers, who rampaged across Cumbria and the south of Scotland between the 13th and 17th centuries.
Ms Ledger found that the production sparked an interest in local history among the pupils behind the short.
A six-person team went out on location at both the stone and the castle. Three were behind the camera while the others made up the film’s cast.
Another pupil is responsible for editing the footage into a seven-minute short.
Ms Ledger said filming in Scotland was a particular challenge as they had just four hours to get the footage they needed.
“It was very, very tight, but it was good,” she commented.
People taking part, range from year eight pupils to those in year 13. All are members of Activity Film, a group which makes a short film every year during the school’s activity week.
Previous efforts have been well-received at the Keswick festival. In 2009 they took the Golden Osprey with To Brampton With Love. The following year they were runner-up with The Solway Spaceman.
They did not enter last year’s production, Insto Boy and plan to submit this year as well.

Kansas: Join the Winfield ‘haunt hunt’ July 30

Winfield Daily:  Join the Winfield ‘haunt hunt’ July 30

Lights blink. Things go bump in the night. Shadows move swiftly in and out of view. Barely discernible sounds may be voices. Transparent, floating apparitions materialize out of thin air. Nothing brings chills and back-of-the-neck prickles like the possibility of a ghostly visitation. Who hasn’t been jumpy while watching “Ghost Hunters,” television’s No. 1 paranormal reality series on the Syfy network?

Now area enthusiasts will have an opportunity to take part in an actual haunted investigation. Ken Elliott, owner of Winfield’s Iron Gate Inn, built in 1885, has asked Darin Peterson and his Moonlit Ghost Hunts to explore this local bed-and-breakfast, and you’re invited.

“This is not a ghost tour or haunted house,” Elliott said, “and it’s not just a tag-along. Everyone attending will actually participate.”

Members of Moonlit Ghost Hunts, from Wichita and around south central Kansas, will lead the hunt as well as provide equipment and instructions on how it works.

Peterson said equipment used will include four types of MEL meters which measure AC magnetic and temperature changes and detect vibration and static electricity. A spirit box, a modified AM/FM radio, scans both frequencies constantly so a ghost or spirit can communicate over the air waves. A piece of equipment taken from earthquake research — the geophone — is very sensitive and used in paranormal research to detect footsteps, bumps or knocks. The KS EMF meter quickly samples the electromagnetic field. Many modified infrared night vision CCTV cameras are utilized, along with digital voice recording devices and several lasers with different colored beams. A modified Nikon professional grade camera takes full-spectrum photos of light that the naked eye does not recognize. Night vision monocular scope and Sony Handycams allow for long range viewing in the dark. Numerous motion sensors/detectors are used, and a DVR with screen serves as the command base.

“This will be your chance for a hands-on experience of what you’ve seen done on TV,” Elliott said.

Moonlit Ghost Hunts and Moonlitghosthunts.com was established in fall 2011. According to their Web site, it was “an idea inspired by an interest in things unexplained and desire to have a better understanding of the science behind paranormal investigating.”

Members hope to teach investigation techniques as they furnish the most current equipment in the field. They supply a location — usually known to have paranormal activity — as they give others a chance to have a real investigative experience.

“We’ve actually been selling out at every single location lately,” Peterson said, “so it’s really started to feel like there’s been some demand to get out and see some historic places and learn how to investigate.”

When Elliott purchased the Iron Gate Inn in January, he quickly became aware the 125-year-old mansion, the former home of John Peter Baden and his wife, Adelaide, held many unique features and untold tales.

“I don’t think anyone has ever died in the house,” Elliott said, “but there does not have to be a death for paranormal activity to exist.”

The inn is filled with interesting and original details such as the European imported parquet floors on the first and second floors and the sweeping hand-carved, walnut, 17-foot main staircase.

During the expedition, participants will explore not only the history — but the mystery — of the mansion.

Elliott also owns the 1889 Serenity Bed and Breakfast on N. Market in Wichita. A haunted hunt is planned for Aug. 17 at the Serenity.

“We just want the public to come in and share the experience,” Elliott said. “It’s a really fun evening; you’ll learn a lot, and then you can do your own investigating. It will be a night you won’t soon forget.”

The Iron Gate Inn is located at 1203 E. Ninth. The hunt will begin at 8:30 p.m. July 30 and last until midnight. Moonlit members will divide participants into small groups. Cost is $35 per person. Some areas of the inn are not handicapped accessible, and the experience is probably not suitable for children under the age of 14.

Tickets or more information about the Winfield investigation or other upcoming events may be purchased or viewed at www.moonlitghosthunts.com.

“We’re always looking for other new places to go,” Peterson added, “and we do think there are some other places of interest in Winfield.”

Peterson encourages anyone who might have a location to suggest to contact him at the Moonlit Ghost Hunts Web site.

“The Iron Gate Inn also offers free historic tours upon request,” said Elliott.

Reservations may be made by calling 221-7787.

Australia: BUSTED: Ghosts on camera. Who you gonna call?

From NewsOnline.au:  BUSTED: Ghosts on camera. Who you gonna call?

SOMEONE get Fox Mulder on the line. Now.

A ghost hunter has captured a "paranormal attack" on film, giving everyone one more reason to visit Cairns.
Kris Fox is the man with nerves of steel - although when you're in the ghost hunting business this is somewhat of a professional necessity.

But a trip to the abandoned town of Maytown five hours west of Cairns recently still has him shaking in his boots, the Cairns Post reports.

Fox, one of the region's foremost paranormal investigators, released a 34-minute documentary last week telling the tale of his three-night stay in the historic town and his description of what happened is enough to send shivers down your spine.

"It was as if I was in a crowd of people who started out 40m away and gradually took a step closer," he said.
"You would walk down the main street and get the feeling you were being watched, like you were trespassing.
"Right up until the last day I started getting very twitchy and very emotional. It got to the point where I couldn't take any more, I was sick in the guts.

"I virtually cracked in the end, I said I couldn't do this any more.

"As I was standing inside the replica miners hut, I was bending down to grab my stuff and something hit me from the left hand side and threw me across the room on to and table.

"After this I don't remember anything until the next day."

Sound freaky? He swears black and blue the next thing he remembers is being found by fellow tourists the next day - 8km from the historic town.

While many may not believe his creepy tale, there is plenty of dark history surrounding the former gold mining centre to give it an eerie feel.

Settled in the 1870s, it was the main settlement on the Palmer River goldfields and a majority of its inhabitants were Chinese miners where bloody street battles were the norm.

Believe it or not, Fox hopes if nothing else his documentary, entitled Dead Eyes Watching, will help keep the town's memory alive - just maybe not in the small hours of the evening.

NYC's Metropolitan Museum of Art -- A Haunting Experience

From SBWire:  NYC's Metropolitan Museum of Art -- A Haunting Experience

New York City, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/11/2012 -- This Saturday (7/14/12) two of New York's noted paranormal investigators will be leading a group of adventurous amateur ghost hunters through the vast and numerous galleries of the Metropolitan Museum of Art searching for signs of the paranormal. After receiving a crash course in the fundamentals of ghost hunting, they'll be instructed in the proper use of different electronic ghost hunting equipment as well as how to detect and even photograph signs of paranormal activity.

Pete and Stew Kandel (known as Dr. Pete and Dr. Stew) noted paranormal investigators and licensed NYC tour guides aka  the “Ghost Doctors”  have been exploring the Met for signs of ghostly activity, sort of like a paranormal  Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in their quest to find some spirited inhabitants. And it seems that they have unearthed some strange goings-on within the walls of this world renowned iconic museum.

“We have been researching the Met for quite some time and have uncovered some strange and at times bizarre paranormal phenomena,” says Dr. Pete. “And this Saturday's ghost hunt could be quite revealing considering this museum has the largest collection of priceless and ancient artifacts in the world.”

So if things should go their ghostly way and a roaming spirit who just happens to be floating along in search of some of their lost belongings, maybe the Ghost Doctors will be able to point them in the right direction. You just never know!

Nevada: I-Team: The Hunt for Goldfield's Ghosts

From 8 News :  I-Team: The Hunt for Goldfield's Ghosts

GOLDFIELD, Nev. -- Goldfield, Nevada which is 180 miles north of Las Vegas exemplifies the boom and bust cycle so common in Nevada's history. Rich gold deposits made it the biggest city in Nevada at the beginning of the 20th century.

Everything changed 89 years ago today when a deadly fire raced through the town, wiping out 25 city blocks. Today, fewer than 250 people live there.

Reality TV ghost hunters think Goldfield is one of the most haunted places in the country, and now some civic boosters want to put that reputation to work.

Anyone with an interest in Nevada history has a soft spot in their heart for Goldfield. Once, a fabulously wealthy boomtown. Today, it's just barely hanging on. 8 News NOW has reported before about magnificent Goldfield Hotel believed -- by paranormal investigators -- to be one of the most haunted buildings in the west. But there's another grand old building that is every bit as spooky.

The public rarely gets to look inside the ominous Goldfield School, but that's changing thanks to history buffs who think the ghosts might even save Goldfield.

The windswept cemetery outside of town, Goldfield's Boot Hill, is testament to the death and tragedy that marred the city's short tumultuous heyday. Some of the world's richest ore sparked a boomtown built to last with more than 20,000 people at a time Las Vegas was a dusty speck.

It was the biggest city in the state and there was talk of making it the capital. But a pair of deadly fires, followed by killer floods, wiped out nearly everything. Those who weren't killed left when the gold ran out.

"When you walk through the building, it really shows the prominence of the town at that time. Goldfield was a great city," said Esmeralda County Commissioner Dominic Pappalardo. As a big city transplant, Pappalardo has taken on the task of restoring Goldfield's greatness, one building at a time, starting with the once magnificent high school.

By night, the school looks like it belongs on a hillside behind the Bates Motel, large and ominous. It is rarely open to the public, has been ravaged by time and cannibalized by the district, but hints remain of what it once was. The names of each graduating class in graffiti on the walls, a Christmas greeting from the last senior class (1947), and teacher lessons still on the blackboard.

Pappalardo has spent hundreds of hours in the school, repairing it brick by brick, room by room, and has seen enough, heard enough, to believe he hasn't been alone.

"There's spirits and entities and all of them lived here in the past and they have a reason why they were here and when they were alive," Pappalardo said.

He claims there are more than a dozen people. He has seen wispy glimpses of a young girl in what used to be a lavatory. And there's a spot on the second floor where others have seen the once stern principal.

"I had a medium here recently tell me he sees Mary McLoughlin, the principal of the school, standing here watching students, making sure they do what they are supposed to be doing," he said.

"It's nothing hostile. It's more like, hello, I'm here," said John Cushman, a ghost hunter. He is leader of the G-Tops, that's Ghost Town Operations. Cushman and his team travel Nevada's outback, looking for ghost towns with real ghosts.

"You say Goldfield, that's all you need to do. People learned it from television. Oh yeah, that's where the ghosts are," he said.
slideshow preview
Television ghost hunters have repeatedly focused on the massive Goldfield Hotel. Paranormal amateurs have taken to break-ins so they can connect with the other side. That gave Cushman and Pappalardo the idea that ghosts might save Goldfield, which now sells all sorts of spooky merchandise.

But restoring the school is a key goal, and for that, they stage Dinner with a Ghost once a month. A team of volunteers led by a Las Vegas chef whip up a four-course gourmet meal in a makeshift kitchen, and serve it to guests in an elegant but spooky setting inside the school. Infrared cameras record any anomalies, KDWN radio broadcasts the proceedings. Guests are encouraged to ask questions of any spectral visitors and a device called an Ovelius Box picks up words from somewhere.

Throughout the school, the team sets up objects they hope will trigger a reaction, and they've recorded some pretty weird stuff.

"We've encountered a lot here. I think, in my own opinion, they get used to you. They know when you're here," Cushman said.

All proceeds from the dinners go into the non-profit that is restoring the school. The hope is that interest in the dead will keep Goldfield alive.

"We want to save our history and our heritage because this is all we've got," Pappalardo said.

Ghost Hunt Returns to Kent Stage

This took place this Saturday, June 30, but it will be doubtless repeated so mark your calendars now:

From Kent Patch.com: Ghost Hunt Returns to Kent Stage

Ghost hunters both professional and just the curious return to the Kent Stage tonight for a late night of normal-paranormal activity.

The Spiritual Insight Ghost Hunting Team of Ohio (SIGHT) will lead the annual progressive ghost hunt from 9 p.m. tonight to 3 a.m. Sunday morning at the theater.

Laura Lyn, a psychic medium who leads investigations with SIGHT, said the two Kent buildings that are the focus of tonight's hunt — the Pufferbelly restaurant and the stage are full of spiritual energy.

"We believe that this is actually normal presence," Lyn said. "They call it paranormal, but we feel that spirits are always among us."

The hunt starts at the Pufferbelly with dessert and a tour of the building and its basement, where Lyn said much of the spiritual energy is concentrated at the former railroad depot.

At the stage, new this year, participants will get the chance to tour some of the building's private apartments that, like the theater itself, are said to be haunted, including tenant Doug Hite's apartment.

Hite has lived in the building for more than a year and said he's felt a presence more than once.

"I'd like to think the ghost is friendly," Hite said in prepared remarks. "I think she just wants to have a good time. Sometimes she turns on the TV and then flips it right back off."

Participants on the tour also will get to see some of the more exclusive areas of the stage building from the dark corners of the basement to spooky spots on the second floor.

Lyn said participants will get to experiment with equipment provided by SIGHT for detecting spirits.

"What we’re going to do is go to the hot spots and we’re going to use the meters and the electronic equipment that we have," she said. "And we’re going to hand it to them, the equipment, so they can experience it for themselves. Basically what we’re going to do is help them learn to tap into themselves so they can feel the presence of the spirit."

Tickets for the ghost hunt are $68. For tickets, visit www.kentstage.org or call 888-718-4253.
