SORRY, OCTOBER: Sometimes we think, with warm feeling, about ghost tour fans. It is usually in October or late September, when we're thinking of them, with warm feeling, because we look at the Southern California calendar and we see a new ghost tour practically every night of the week. And we scratch our chin and ask "how can one keep up with all the tours?" One almost can't, if one is going attend to the matters they must attend to here on this earthly plane. (Work, hobbies, etc.) And since we ourselves are rather sweet on a spooky and history-filled ghost tour, we always like to keep an eye out for the all-too-rare event that happens *outside* of autumn. Like, say, at the very beginning of June. One doesn't equate ghosts and June, but figure that the ghosts we go hunting for in October are probably around in June with not much to do. So, with no further ado, look to Silver City, that clutch of atmospheric Old-West-y buildings in Kern County, and its upcoming Lantern Tour.
GHOSTS BY NIGHT: This is a true interactive ghost hunt -- the kind you see on television sometimes -- so be prepared for more than factoids about this building and that. A ticket is twelve bucks and the tour starts at 8 -- so juuust about dusk. We like that the proceeds go to the upkeep of this wee town; it really is a small gem and a must-see in the county. (If you've never been, check out pics.) So, eager for more summer spirits? The next hunt after the June 1 night is June 15. Apologies, autumn, looks like summer is stealing some of your spirited thunder.
