England: Ghost Hunting At The Sheffield Fire & Police Museum, With Simply Ghost Nights, 17th March 2012

Press RElease: Ghost Hunting At The Sheffield Fire & Police Museum, With Simply Ghost Nights, 17th March 2012 Sells out fast every time!!! Come on a ghost hunt in Yorkshire, to the Fire & Police musuem in Sheffield. Come and join the ghost hunting team and be a ghost hunter at a very exciting paranormal investigation, at Sheffields most haunted Fire and Police Museum. The museum is now home to many old fire engines and police memorabillia so it is no surprise with so many artifacts that some spirits may still be still attached to them. Artifacts housed here include items from the devastation of the twin towers in New York. On a recent investigation we witnessed the following In one vigil a group of ghost hunters were using a Frank’s box, when they asked for the scanner to stop on 999, as they felt it appropriate considering their surroundings. The spirits of this building that is said to be rich in spectral shenanigans duly obliged, (a photo of the Franks box displaying 999 is on the photo gallery of the Simply Ghost Nights web site), not only once but twice this occurred to our startled and stunned ghost hunters. Another paranormal phenomena occurred with the Franks box, when one of our intrepid ghost hunters said that she was going to sit down, the song by the band James, ‘Sit down next to me‘, was heard from this ever more startling piece of ghost hunting equipment. A full bodied apparition was seen walking at the bottom of the stairs, and when our ghost hunters went to investigate if it was a fellow ghost hunter, in the passing seconds when they arrived at the stairs there was no one in the vicinity what so ever. A number of our ghost hunters stated at the beginning of the evening that they were indeed sceptics, after some paranormal activity of table tipping, a number of them claiming to have been touched by unseen hands and in one instance one ghost hunter claimed to have had her hair tugged, and as well K2 meter spikes on request, they all then exclaimed that they were now convinced of an after life. Disembodied voices were heard in the cellars, and the upper floor too, table tipping and glass divination was experienced in the majority of vigils also, K2 spikes were witnessed on request in the cells after Ian one of the ghost hunters called out for them. The most famous spirit residing at this amazing haunted place, is that of a former prisoner called Cain, on most ghost hunts Cain usually enjoys communicating with the living but he is known to have a more sinister side. On many occasions he has been known to throw the glass breaking it, during glass divination experiments on some ghost hunting nights. He is renowned for making his presence felt, especially to women, he makes it quite obvious he resents anyone daring to enter his cell. There is also the reports of an alleged demon... which has been spotted lurking in recent years sending chills through the visitors and staff alike. Join the simply ghost night team for an all night of ghost hunting experience in Sheffield. So if you want to simply be a ghost hunter for the night, come and join the simply ghost night team. http://www.simplyghostnights.co.uk

Travel: Ghosts in Alaska

According to The Complete Idiot's Guide to Ghosts and Hauntings, there are two locations in Alaska worth visiting. Golden North Hotel Third and Broadway Skagway, Alaska Red Onion Saloon Second and Broadway Skagway, Alaska So what's up with Skagway? From Wikipedia Skagway is a first-class borough in Alaska, on the Alaska Panhandle. It was formerly a cityfirst incorporated in 1900 that was re-incorporated as a borough on June 25, 2007. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city was 862. However, the population doubles in the summer tourist season in order to deal with more than 900,000 visitors. The port of Skagway is a popular stop for cruise ships, and the tourist trade is a big part of the business of Skagway. The White Pass and Yukon Route narrow gauge railroad, part of the area's mining past, is now in operation purely for the tourist trade and runs throughout the summer months. Skagway is also part of the setting for Jack London's book The Call of the Wild. Skagway (originally spelled Skaguay) is from the Tlingit name for the area, "Skagua" or "Shgagwèi" meaning "a windy place with white caps on the water. From Paranormal Knowldege.com: The Ghost of The Golden North Hotel
In the 1890s Skagway, Alaska was one of the main jump-off points for the Yukon gold rush in the Gulf of Alaska. People all over the area were possessed by the thought of finding gold, and most never got even a taste of it. Most of the time, people came back even more broke, or died trying to get there. These people never considered how hard and how unlikely it would be for them to become rich. Avalanches, falling over rock ledges, and starvation were the most common causes for death. It was a cold and very dangerous area that if one did not go with proper equipment and supplies, it was almost a sure death wish. One legend is about a man named Klondike Ike. He left his 19 year-old fiancee Mary from Skagway to participate in the gold rush. He promised Mary upon his return that he would be rich and they can then get married. Mary was back in Skagway waiting for Klondike to come home when she found out he had been killed by an avalanche. Mary could not bear the news of her fiancee not coming back and she locked herself in room 24 of the Golden North Hotel. She would wait years after his death in that room, looking out the window at the docks, hoping he would return on one of the ships. The Ghost of Mary is seen quite often at the hotel. She is said to be in the corridors and in particular room 24. Most of the time, Mary has been a warm presence, except for one occurrence where a man reported sleeping in the room and something trying to choke him to death as he slept. To this day, room 24 is always booked in advance for tourists who want to witness the ghost of Mary herself.
Red Onion Saloon http://www.redonion1898.com/ According to the website, this location has been Skagway's "most exclusive brothel" since 1898. From the website: The Red Onion was the classiest dance hall and saloon in the bustling gold rush town of Skagway. Our upstairs bordello consisted of 10 cribs (or rooms). Each crib was very small in size, but elaborately decorated. The cribs all had 2 or 3 doors for escape purposes and temperature control. A weary miner could wander into the Red Onion for a taste of “liquid courage” and a dance or two with a beautiful lady. When the time came to cure his thirst for some love and affection, the anxious gentleman would choose his girl in a very unique way. Behind the bar were 10 dolls that represented the 10 girls upstairs. As each customer would choose a doll of his choice, the bartender would then lay the doll on her back, indicating that that girl was “busy”. Once the gentleman came back down the stairs, the doll was sat upright so every customer in the bar knew that she was once again available. The Red Onion Brothel Museum is filled with many antiques from the gold rush days. Many of the items on display were found in the brothel — others are part of the owner’s personal collection. Step back in time with one of our “madams” and enjoy the many stories that she has to share. Time in the Red Onion Saloon today in not complete without a peek at the famous Red Onion Brothel. And maybe you’ll even catch a glimpse of Lydia our resident ghost.

Ghost or Apparition?

When the average person speaks of a ghost, they invariably mean any phantom object, when what they are actually referring to is the spirit of a deceased human being.

Much of the reported phenomena reported over the centuries refers to apparitions - spectral animals or phantom trains.

"All ghosts are apparitions, but not all apparitions are ghosts."

My Scrabble Books Took Precedence

Hello, all my faithful readers out there in computer land.

I've missed several days of posting and I apologize for it. I've been working on two Scrabble books (Eve Le QiNu's Flashwords) which help people to learn the 2 and 3 letter Scrabble words.

I won't provide links here since this is an apology not a sales pitch - but if you do like to play Scrabble, go to the Kindle Store (or the Nook Store) and type in Eve Le QiNu and my two books will be brought up. (Eve Le QiNu is an anagram.... see if you can unscramble it. Bear in mind my publishing name is Magic Mirror Press)

Anyway, I finished volume 2 yesterday, and today I'm chilling out...so regular posting resumes tomorrow.

Thanks again for your patience.

Tennessee town hopes ghost hunts can scare up cash

From The Occult Section: Tennessee town hopes ghost hunts can scare up cash
NASHVILLE (Reuters) – Harriman, Tennessee hopes that ghosts, or rather ghost hunters, can raise enough money to restore an historic and reputedly haunted building.

One ghost hunter wants to use the “dark entities” supposedly haunting the 121-year-old Temperance Building, a former jail, to attract both tourists and paranormal enthusiasts to Harriman, which was founded by anti-alcohol crusaders in the 19th century.

Last week, by unanimous vote, the six-person city council agreed to let Ghost Hunters of Southern Tennessee – G.H.O.S.T. Paranormal — show footage caught during a night spent inside the city-owned building. It will be aired on January 27 on the web-based Paranormal Network.

This Tuesday, a council workshop is slated to consider ghost hunter Richard Ruland’s plans to conduct paid tours of the building, with half the proceeds going toward its restoration.

The haunting is a part of local lore, said Mayor Chris Mason, who grew up in the town of about 7,000 residents. Ghost enthusiasts often visit the Temperance Building, but G.H.O.S.T. Paranormal “found an exceptional amount of paranormal activity” there, said the mayor.

Mason said he does not necessarily believe in ghosts, “but I don’t not believe in them either.”

Under Ruland’s plan, ghost tourists would pay $299 for all-night visits by up to six people and $30 per person for three-hour tours.

He said he has no doubt the tours will be successful.

“It’s a gold mine to have a different place to hunt,” said Ruland.

The three-story brick and stone structure was built in 1891 by the Tennessee Land Co. when it began developing what was to be the “Utopia of Temperance,” about 40 miles west of Knoxville in easternTennessee.

The stately building later became Temperance University before serving time as city hall, with a jail in the basement. Now it holds a few offices and the city museum.

Councilman Buddy Holley said the city council’s session with G.H.O.S.T. was hardly normal.

“They showed us video that showed what appeared to be some apparitions, and they had some voices recorded,” Holley said.

Holley is not sure if he saw ghosts on the video, but he is sure the talk of paranormal guests could help in the ongoing restoration of the historic downtown, which includes the Temperance Building.

It will take about $1 million to finish renovations and upgrades to the building, Holley said.

He said he also hopes it will bring some publicity to Harriman and boost tourism. “We’re really interested in getting people to visit,” Holley said.

Ruland, whose group is based in Dayton, Tennessee, is sure of what he and other ghost hunters recorded on the night of December 17, 2011, when they used cameras and other gear, including the Ghost Meter Pro, which detects electromagnetic fields.

“We actually caught a photo of what I believe is a full-body apparition down in the basement,” he said. “We captured overall 50 voices… There were a lot of things in that building that were completely unexplained.”

One voice, he said, even confessed to murder. “That building, everything in it wants to talk, wants to say ‘hi,’ wants to have communication with somebody,” he said.

Most of the ghosts “aren’t your grandma walking up and down the hall,” he said. “Do I think I am dealing with human entities that are trapped there? Yes. But that’s only about 10 percent of what’s there.

“The other 90 percent would be the Wraiths, a term a lot of people wouldn’t know outside my industry,” Ruland said. “They are darker entities, once-human souls.

“In their death, they’ve been transformed into these mischievous, angry entities,” he said. “They live on electromagnetic fields from electricity in buildings, from batteries, from people.”

This particular crew in Harriman isn’t dangerous, he said. “They just like to screw with people.”

Common Mistakes When Ghost Hunting

From Roison.com: Common Mistakes When Ghost Hunting
04.01.2012 | Author: SarahMiller87 | Posted in Tutorial Paypal
1. Trespassing.
At all times acquire authorization well before investigating private property. Previously, there’s a news story about a ghost hunter who trespassed on private property to check out a haunted house. The person who was living in the home believed the ghost hunter was a robber, pulled out a gun, and shot him. (Fortunately, the ghost hunter was OKAY.) That isn’t a scenario that you want to experience, so always get permission just before visiting non-public properties.

If you happen to be visiting a cemetery, make sure to adhere to the cemetery rules. If the cemetery is closed after dark, abide by the guidelines, until you have obtained authorization to break them. You do not want to be fined (or arrested) for breaking the law.

2. Being afraid of Ghosts.
There is not any need to be fearful of Ghosts. Ghosts can not harm you (with the exception of poltergeists who could possibly toss things at you). Ghosts are simply persons residing another dimension, or maybe on another plane. They have absolutely no superhuman abilities (with the possible exception of boosted telepathy). They cannot “curse” you or even literally injure you. Generally in most scenarios, Ghosts won’t follow you home (unless you maliciously request them to).

Ghosts haunt an area, particularly cemeteries, for a reason. If they could leave, they wouldn’t be within the cemetery (or house, or even battlefield) to begin with. Typically, Ghosts remain on The earth due to the fact they’re fighting certainty, and wish to change an event from the past. In some other scenarios, they could have a message to give, or even a small task to complete. Different Ghosts are emotionally attached to a person or even place, and still have a difficult time removing this particular bond.

You should keep in mind Ghosts usually do not exist to bring about destruction, harm as well as evil. Unfortunately, Hollywood portrays Ghosts as dangerous creatures—which causes individuals to irrationally worry about Ghosts. You really should be much more concerned with the humans you may face when ghost hunting (i.e. a group of deer hunters who don’t want you around), than with the Ghosts you might come across. An illogical anxiety about Ghosts will probably prevent an individual from going through awesome things, and figuring out more about the paranormal.

3. Ghost Hunting By yourself.
Never ever ghost hunt alone. Many haunted areas are secluded—so always take safeguards. The ideal ghost hunting group is usually a team of 3-6 people. At the very minimum, be sure to have one other person along with you. Just what would happen if you fell, sprained an foot, and there was nobody there to help you?

4. Checking out the haunted destination while not telling an individual where you are going.
Always be certain someone at home (or at work) is aware of where you are headed. In this way, in case some thing happens, your friend knows where to find you. What exactly may possibly happen? I know 1 ghost hunter who was simply investigating an empty house, and he fell through a damaged spot in the floor (rotten flooring). Luckily for us, he had a team of people together with him, and his friend requested aid. Another smart idea—bring a cellular phone if you happen to need to make contact with someone.

5. Drinking, smokes, or maybe starting up a fire at the ghost hunting site.
A ghost hunt is no spot for cigarettes, liquor, drugs, as well as fire. Cigarettes can easily appear like ghostly apparitions in images, and drinking can certainly distort ones own senses. Furthermore, keep away from lit barbeques and open campfires. You never want to inadvertently set some thing on fire, or allow mischievous Ghosts some thing hazardous to play along with (flames).

6. Taking pictures when looking at the sunlight or even moon (or at a right angle to the sun or moon).
Stay clear of taking photos while in front of the sunshine or the moon. The light source can flare off the video camera zoom lens and make a false anomaly. A bright or full moon can cause flares too. For ideal outcomes, make sure to have light sources lurking behind you when ever snapping a photo. Always be careful when taking photographs inside. A lot of things can reflect from your flash, producing orbs or perhaps ghostly apparitions. Windows, TV’s, metal things, magnifying glaas, shiny home furniture, and lustrous floors can easily almost all reflect off your own flash.

7. Strong or even intimidating Ghosts to appear.
In no way dare or threaten spirits to show up. You might get your desire, and spirits are certainly not frequently friendly in case you have confronted them. Normally display respect for others around you – including Ghosts/spirits, as well as home owners.

8. Overlooking your own intuition or gut feelings.
Don’t dismiss your own gut instinct whenever ghost hunting. If you think you must investigate a particular place, go along with your instinct. If you’re disappointed or perhaps upset inside a particular place, there’s probably a reason for it. Consider. That does not imply whatever you experience holds true. However, following your own inner direction will let you in a few cases.

The REAL Dangers of Ghost Hunting

From IHuntGhosts.com: The REAL Dangers of Ghost Hunting
There is a lot of discussion about dangers encountered in the paranormal field. I have touched on them myself in various blogs and articles.

But how dangerous is it?

If a demon was lurking in every darkened corner and nasty spirits were following people home from the mall wouldn’t it have warranted a story on Fox News by now?

It is actually a very difficult question to address. The truth is that the dangers - real and perceived - greatly seem to be a matter of bias and outlook.

From the viewpoint of the skeptic: Since there is no conclusive or even convincing proof of the paranormal there can therefore be no quantifiable dangers beyond those inherent in walking about dilapidated buildings in the dark.

From the viewpoint of the believer: There are ghosts and worse wandering about that want nothing more than to follow us home, feed on the human life-force, and promote general physical and spiritual mayhem in our lives.

They can’t both be right, can they?

Those of us trying to balance a belief in the paranormal with the goal of not jumping to conclusions have a particularly hard time. Not only do we have to weigh our own concerns that are based on our own experiences and perception, if we are responsible, we have to find a balance in what we present as fact and opinion.

The television shows only add to the confusion.

The crew at Ghost Hunters seems to never experience anything nasty or even particularly scary. There is no talk of needy spirits following them home. They take no precautions that we are told about.

The guys at Ghost Adventures present us with a demonic presence in nearly every episode. They challenge that which would be called evil. Momentary possessions seem almost a day-to-day occurrence. Despite the dangers that they face weekly, they live happy, successful lives and apparently their walls are not bleeding.

So…is it safe or not?

My opinion is that ghost hunting is NOT a completely safe activity. HOWEVER, statistically it is obviously not much more dangerous than other activities or it would be included on life insurance questionnaires.

The greatest danger that paranormal investigators face is not to ourselves, but instead to the mental and spiritual well-being of our clients.

A while back, a skeptical researcher decided to test some of his “colleagues“. Living in a fairly old house, he invited various teams from around the area to investigate the occurrences (unexplainable sounds, fleeting shadows, the odd item that apparently has been moved though no one moved it…you know, the usual stuff) that he and his family were experiencing.

Upwards of ten teams did their investigations of the property if I remember correctly. Every single team reportedly found evidence of paranormal activity. For some it was just a few scratchy EVPs or orb photos. Others claimed to have found more. One stated conclusively that there were demons literally swarming about the attic and that a home cleansing if not a full blow exorcism was in order with all haste (which of course would be performed for a fee).

The catch? The homeowner had lied. He and his family had never experienced anything that even remotely resembled paranormal activity.

But the teams (and I never got an answer as to whether the teams were invited randomly or if he had searched out teams that seemed less than reliable) obviously “found” activity that did not exist. In their zeal to be “THE TEAM” that proves life beyond death once and for all, they collected bad evidence, presented misinterpreted data, and on occasion fabricated or at least imagined things that were not there.

What if this had been a real family that was really scared? Instead of calling in an exterminator to remove a couple of squirrels from the attic or getting an electrician to properly ground some faulty wiring, we have just led them to fear their own home. Instead of helping them, we have added to the stress factor caused by the unknown in their lives.

I don’t do a lot of residential cases for just this reason. The responsibility involved overwhelms me. What if I am the one that mistakes a passing car’s headlight for a shadow person and misses the build-up of carbon monoxide from a malfunctioning furnace? What if the EVP that sounds like “kill you” was instead a moth crawling across a microphone?

Worse, as a believer who has been told that he has the natural ability to both attract and influence spirits, what if my visit triggers activity or invites something into the home that was otherwise happily dormant?

As paranormal investigators we can operate under the assumption of ‘assumed risk”. I have “seen” things that I perceived as negative - one can argue whether they were imagined or not. I believe there are truly threatening and even evil things lurking about.

I try to educate myself. I try to prepare myself. I do what I see as necessary to protect myself and my team in the same way that a skydiver wears a helmet or a welder wears a welding mask. Few activities are without risk, and ghost hunting is no different.

But when it comes right down to it, you are more likely to trip over a table in the dark and break a leg than you are to encounter one of Satan’s minions. Neither is desirable, though I will confess that I would rather break my leg.

But let’s all make sure it is our own leg we are breaking.
