I'm not warranting its legitimacy. (Not that I think there's anything wrong with it, but it's a caveat that must be published whenever dealing with Craig's List.

This posting is for anyone that's ever been interested in doing a Ghost Hunt at Fort Howard. No, not the Haunted Dungeons where people jump out at you and say "Boo". I'm talking about an actual hunt, where we're in the park at night after it's closed to the public, exploring and looking for signs and evidence of the paranormal. Paranormal experts have done tests in the area and all of the results indicated that it is indeed haunted (there was an article in the Dundalk Eagle a few years ago about it). I'm in the process of talking with the powers that be to set this up, and that's why I'm here.
I'm requesting that if you're interested, you e-mail me with your name, age and e-mail address (obviously). All this is, is a petition to indicate public interest when the time comes to present the proposal for final approval. You are NOT obligated in any way, to do anything. I'll say that again: You are NOT obligated to do anything. I simply need a list to indicate whether this is something people would be interested in, or if it would be a waste of time and money to even pursue it. If/when it's approved, I'll send out a mass e-mail to everyone on the list with a time and place to meet and discuss the details. This will be open to the public (so PLEASE spread the word, and ask your friends to e-mail me if they're interested) and will be ongoing every Friday and Saturday night as long as weather permits (so ignore the dates up at the top. They're meaningless).
If you've never been on a Ghost Hunt before, not to worry. All of the equipment will be provided and you'll be trained in its use before we set out for the park. So if you've ever thought that the shows on TV were interesting and you wanted to try it out, here's your chance, BUT, only if I have enough backing to convince the people who need convincing. Once more, this is simply to indicate public interest. You are NOT signing anything, nor are you obligated to do anything. I also cannot promise that this is definitely going to come to fruition, but the more people that are interested, the better the chances. Finally, this is not a "cheap thrills" kind of hunt; there won't be anyone jumping out at you, or wandering through the trees making noises. These will be always be legitimate hunts. Anything that happens (noises, sights, smells, etc) will be genuine and real.
Also, assuming this is approved, I'll be looking for 4 or 5 other people to serve as Team Leaders. This will involve some responsibility as well as a background check, so if you're lazy/unreliable or have a record, don't even bother asking. If you're interested in this, please let me know in your e-mail and we'll discuss the details. Please note that this is on a volunteer basis only; we will NOT be paid for doing this. Any and all profit will be going to the Parks and Rec Council. If the participants enjoy themselves and want to tip us, that's great. But if you're looking for a steady source of income, this isn't it.

QUANTICO, Va. --
A Quantico employee’s hunting skills got her onto a cable
television show slated to air in October. But Jeanne Rector doesn’t hunt
big game or enemy combatants. In her free time, this office assistant
with the base Safety Division is a ghost hunter. The show is an episode
of the Biography Channel’s “My Ghost Story,” shot Aug. 6 and expected to
air sometime in October.
Rector stumbled on the Fredericksburg Area Paranormal Investigations group, founded by a retired military policeman, about a year ago. She had been searching online for material on ghosts because her boyfriend’s grandmother had died in the house where Rector lives but still made her presence known, Rector said.
“All kinds of stuff happens at the house,” she said. “Things get moved. You see her walking down the hall. My hair’s gotten pulled.”
Her interest in the paranormal, however, goes back further.
“I’ve actually been able to see and hear paranormal stuff since I was a little kid,” she said.
Joann Barron, on the other hand, didn’t believe in the paranormal until after she became director of the Weems-Botts Museum in Dumfries, where the episode of “My Ghost Story” was shot. The building has long been reputed to be haunted, and about a year before Barron met Rector, another team of paranormal investigators brought in a “ghost box,” a device that is supposed to allow spirits to communicate with the living. In her office, a man’s voice came from the device, saying his men were hurt and needed a medic, she recalled.
“I thought it was some kind of gimmick,” said Barron.
The next morning, when she arrived at work, she off-handedly told the “ghost” they could no longer talk because the ghost box wasn’t there.
“All of a sudden, all of my electronic equipment started turning on,” she said. “For several days in a row, when I came in, it would greet me. And that changed my demeanor on ghosts.”
Earlier this year, an independent paranormal investigator working with Rector’s group — now seven members strong — contacted Barron asking if they could conduct an investigation at the museum. She readily accepted.
They showed up on a February night with cameras, a video recorder, electromagnetic field meters and other equipment and stayed until 1:30 a.m. They got video of a closet door opening on its own, audio recordings of spirits responding to questions, and video and still images of an orb descending the stairs.
What Rector saw coming down the stairs that night was Violet Merchant, who lived in the house most of her long life.
The four most prominent ghosts in the house, she said, are Violet, her sister Mary, her father Richard and her mother Annie. Mary Merchant, nicknamed Mamie, suffered from an unspecified mental disorder — some say autism, others say epilepsy — and died at the age of 23.
“Back then, they didn’t let those people out of the house,” Rector said. “So she just kind of stayed in her bedroom all her life until she passed away.”
Her father died the same year, and Violet Merchant, who had moved away, returned to the house
to take care of her mother. She lived there for the rest of her life.
As Rector walked into the parlor during the investigation with a cameraman behind her, it was a young Violet Merchant she saw coming down the stairs, her silk dress rustling audibly. The cameraman, too, heard the dress, and the video captured a pulsating orb hovering down the stairway, she said.
In Mary Merchant’s bedroom, the investigators placed the electromagnetic field meter on her bed
and asked her to manipulate its readings in response to questions.
“Certain questions we would ask, it would go up all the way to red,” Rector said, noting that such a reading would normally only be obtained next to a circuit box. Mary Merchant answered that she liked the independent investigator who had been to the house repeatedly and liked the stuffed horse the team had brought her, but she didn’t respond when asked what day it was.
Barron wasn’t surprised by the results. One of her volunteers often picks up strange voices on a digital recorder, she said. Doors and windows often open on their own. Other signs include “lots of footsteps, lots of touching, lots of whispering in your ear, that type of thing,” Barron said. Like the “’toons” in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit,” she said, the spirits can hardly resist finishing the “Shave and a Haircut” tap. “They can be active, and they certainly can be hams. They’re not always discreet.”
The Merchants inhabit the Victorian-era portion of the house, she said. But in the original, colonial-era part if the building, constructed in 1749, are “a large variety of entities.”
Rector’s group sent the evidence they had gathered to the “My Ghost Story” producers, who scheduled a time to meet with them at the museum. In one night, they shot footage of the team reenacting its investigation, Rector said. Two museum volunteers and the independent investigator who worked with the group were flown to California to do interviews for the show.
Barron said ghost stories had drawn a lot of interest to the museum, “But the history is pretty awesome, too.” The museum’s mission is to teach about the history of Dumfries, which was once the nation’s third-largest port, larger than New York City, until the port filled with silt.
A blue-star museum, Weems-Botts is open free of charge to active duty military service members and their families. But be warned: when it comes to paranormal activity, Barron said, “As much happens during the day as can happen at night.”
Meanwhile, Rector is staying busy. She said her group has a waiting list of four more homes to investigate, and last week they checked out the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston, W.V. The Fredericksburg Area Paranormal Investigators’ services are also free of charge.

The ghastly gang is still seeking spirits as a new 14-episode season of Ghost Hunters premieres Wednesday, September 5 at 9 p.m. on SyFy. “A Serial Killer’s Revenge” on September 5: Charleston, South Carolina has the distinct honor of winning Ghost Hunters’ America’s Hometown Ghost Hunt contest. TAPS heads straight to the historic Old City Jail, where America’s first female serial killer, Lavinia Fisher, spent her last few days alive before her execution in 1820.
“Camp Fear” on September 12: TAPS travels to Georgia’s Camp Rutledge, the location of a “Friday the 13th” movie shoot, in search of “elemental spirits” — created by nature, not humans — and also stops in Marion, North Carolina to help a young mom who fears a ghost might be out to hurt her daughter.
“French Quarter Massacre” on September 19: In an effort to bring closure to families of the victims of the 1973 Jimani Lounge Massacre — where 32 men died in a horrific arson attack — TAPS fans out across New Orleans, investigating the Jimani Lounge, The Mortuary and a cemetery, in its attempt to contact the fire’s victims.
“Don’t Feed the Apparition” on September 26: TAPS doesn’t let being outdoors and surrounded by animals interfere with its investigation of the Alexandria Zoo in Alexandria, Louisiana. Zoo staffers have experienced unexplained occurrences that remind them of the pranks pulled by their dearly departed zookeeper, which leaves them wondering if their old friend is playing practical jokes on them from beyond the grave.
Grant left the show for personal reasons at the conclusion of the season finale earlier this year in May. His departure, although never fully explained, stirred up a storm of speculation with some fans thinking his marriage was in jeopardy. That rumor was never confirmed. Some even believed Grant left because he wasn’t getting along with Jason.
Ghost Hunters is SyFy’s longest-running unscripted series. Since its 2004 premiere, the show has spawned two spin-offs with more than 200 episodes among the three series.

The Sci-FI Channel series Ghost Hunters International will return to the USS Salem on Friday, Sept. 7, for what is being called a "special paranormal experience."
Investigators Dustin Pari, Barry Fitzgerald and CC Carol will meet with members of the public before an overnight ghost hunt aboard the ship. Participants will use infrared cameras and parabolic microphones to hunt for spirits.
It isn't cheap. Tickets are $125 each, with a limited two-for-one deal.
Built at the Fore River shipyard, where it now serves as a floating museum, the USS Salem was in action for 12 years in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. The heavy cruiser’s guns never fired before it was decommissioned in 1959.
In 2008, a team from Mass Paranormal reported high-level “activity” on the ship, including a ghost named John and an unseen woman telling them to “get out.” Their investigation came after repeated reports of unexplained noises and ghost-like appearances.

When it comes to trying to find ghosts
on a ghost hunt or investigation there are a number of different types
of equipment that people will use. Sometimes people are just lucky being
at the right place at the right time.
There is another way to increase your chances. I know this to be a
fact as this is what we do at the Warehouse that produces on almost all

customers. Another testament is that if you watch ghost hunting shows
you will have noticed that the ghost hunters despite the sophistication
of their equipment; without exception, will always defer to a psychic medium.
The human body is the most sensitive piece of equipment on
earth, therefore, why don’t you try exploring that avenue if you have
not done so before? The key is to work with a psychic that is used to
ghosts being around and is not afraid of what goes on around her/him.
For the secrets of life; think in terms of energy, frequency and
vibration. The whole of the universe is energy. Constructive use (positive use)
of this energy raises the level of consciousness of man and in turn
raises his vibration rate or frequency. Spiritual growth requires the
elimination of all negative thought, which dissipates “the life force” or vital energy. Every aspect of life in the physical depends on this basic energy or power of the universe.
Everyone and everything has energy to it. Some have an energy that is stronger than others. A psychic’s energy is like a beacon in the night; it is brighter and clearer than other people’s energy. It draws the ghosts towards it.
Ghosts are connected to those that can communicate with them and are
instantly drawn to them. When there is a gathering of people giving off
positive energy, ghosts flock to that location as though it were a party.

This was a question posted on Yahoo Answers a couple of days ago. It has received no answers except facetious ones (presumably because the fool who posted specified "without cops" which means he intends to vandalize wherever he goes?
In a larger context, I have to admit I dislike these "Ask a Question" sites like Yahoo Answers, etc. I mean, jee suz. Go to the library and look it up yourself. Do a google search on "Ghost hunting in Grand Rapids" and you'll find tons of websites.
In fact, let me do it right now:

Ghost Hunting, Amateur-Style

It seems that ghost hunter shows are everywhere these days. Flip on a channel and you can find a variety of styles, methods and hunters that all focus on the pursuit of the paranormal. But what if you don’t have thousands of dollars to spend on thermal imaging cameras, EVP software (for those not in the know, Electronic Voice Phenomena), video cameras and expensive equipment all to use for catching that all-important evidence. Don’t worry, even if you have a limited budget and zero experience, you can still catch a ghost.
Tape Recorders
These handy little devices are for more than taping college lectures and nowadays they are far more reliable and easier to use (you don’t have to worry about popping in those pesky little cassettes, it’s all digital now).
On average they can start about $20 and run all the way up into the hundreds range. Be prepared to hear static, they still carry a bit of that echo-y fuzz, but if your ears are perked, you may capture that elusive groan or whisper.
Dowsing Rods
Yes, they sound hopelessly old-fashioned, quirky at best, maybe a little too ‘black magic’ at worse. But do they work? According to some, absolutely! You can find these items at your local alternative/new age gift store or online (Amazon carries them at a mere cost of $14.99.).
What is the secret mechanism that enables them to contacts spirits? The short answer is, nobody really knows. But its authenticity dates back to biblical times. It is said that Aaron used a rod to locate water in the desert. Try it out and watch the tips of the rods, if there is a spirit lurking about, you should see it moving.
Scrying
This is another method that is sometimes chalked up to the interpretations of overly-imaginative minds (similar to the movement of the Ouija planchette). Scrying is also one of ancient origins, it involves using a bowl of water (sometimes a mirror or the ever iconic ‘crystal ball’) and watching as images begin to appear. Think of those gypsy camps, with hoards of kids in costume, and those elaborate, dramatic ghost conjuring rituals. Of course, what forms is generally ‘seen’ only by the person holding the object and is most often, unfortunately, a harbinger of doom. Be careful what you wish for.
Lights, camera, action!
You know what they say, seeing is believing. When in doubt, bring your trusty camera along on any ghost hunt. Nowadays, this type of evidence can be easily captured using simple digital cameras or just your phone camera. There is no reason a spirit couldn’t be seen creeping around a corner of a room and just so happen upon your phone screen, think of what a great screen-saver this would make!

Yep, that’s right, you can download an app from i-tunes and also on some kindle devices and begin ghost hunting immediately. Again, the cost is very little, ranging from ‘free’ to $1.99 and most likely should be used with a grain of salt. Upon reading the reviews, customers stated that the Voice Recorder often repeated the same words, over and over, and interestingly enough, the same tone of voice. Oh well, you get what you pay for.

Portsmouth Dockyard are holding a charity paranormal investigation fundraising event in aid of Portsmouth Hospital's Rocky Appeal charity on Saturday 8th September 2012.
The event will be a charity paranormal investigation in which Muddles is teaming up with a leading ghost hunting company based in Portsmouth called Paranormal Adventures who do ghost hunting events throughout the UK and will give the public the change to take part in unique paranormal experiments as well as use ghost hunting equipment as seen on TV shows such as Most Haunted , Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures.
This ghost hunt will start at 7.30 pm and run until 12.30am with special guest Mick Lyons the appeals co-ordinator coming along to welcome guests to the charity and the event.
The team of experienced investigators look forward to welcoming the public and will demonstrate how to use all of the latest ghost hunting equipment that you will be using during the evenings experiments and team vigils.
Tea and coffee will be provided throughout the evening.
Price £40 per person.
ALL proceeds raised from this event will go directly to the Rocky Appeal.

When Maine Ghost Hunters go camping, they don't tell ghost stories around the campfire. They search for Bigfoot.
From Friday, Aug 3 through Sunday, Aug. 5, Maine Ghost Hunters, a paranormal investigation group, will gather in an "undisclosed and remote wooded area in the deep woods of Northern Maine. True Bigfoot country, by all rights," according to the "meet-up" announcement.
The paranormal hunters also hope to bring a Bigfoot expert along for the weekend, the group announced. Participation will be by arrangement. Maine Ghost Hunters plan to invite people they know.
"We're principally paranormal investigators," said Maine Ghost Hunters co-founder Tony Lewis. "We just started doing Bigfoot hunting."
The weekend event comes fresh off a midweek ghost hunt at Portland Public Library, when members of Maine Ghost Hunters will join the Portland Public Teen Library for a paranormal investigation.
"It was the team's idea," Lewis said of the excursion into the woods of northern Maine to camp and hunt for Bigfoot.
"We're putting together a lot of meet-ups," he said.
Typically, Maine Ghost Hunters frequent haunted locations, cemeteries, old buildings.
Lewis and Kat McKechnie of Bowdoinham, two of the cofounders of Maine Ghost Hunters, talked in the spring with a few of ther other members about expanding their focus and including a search for the Sasquatch legend.
"Because he's not a species of animal that's been proven to be in existence ... we could say it's in the realm of the paranormal," Lewis said.
Loren Coleman, curator of the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, which features exhibits on "hidden animals" such as Bigfoot, said he prefers to view the question of an upright, hairy mammal roaming the woods from a scientific perspective.
"I think we have to look at it in terms of cryptotourism, it's not related to the ghost or paranormal area but it's related to biology and zoology," Coleman said of the Bigfoot legend.
"What's happened with Bigfoot is it's become a modern eco-tourism, we call it cryptotourism, people used to go out and go camping and do birdwatching or orient toward mountains, now people actually go out and look for Bigfoot," Coleman said.
"I think the possibility for Bigfoot in northern Maine is slight," he added, assessing the chances of success. "If there are reports up there, and there are some sightings, that's probably some interlopers from the boreal forests, the mountain range forests of Quebec and New Brunswick. There doesn't seem to be a viable living population in northern Maine. ... You get those kind of outbursts of sightings and then they disappear so it doesn't seem as if there's any routine, breeding population of Bigfoot in Maine right now."
Lewis said Maine Ghost Hunters will go equipped with the tools of the trade to document any sightings.
"We have a half dozen night vision handicams for video," he said. "We film everything, we put together documentary style videos."
Sometime in October, the group likely will air the results of the Bigfoot hunt.
This is no luxury outing. The group warns of no bathroom facilities, no conveniences, just a chance at "roughin' it" in the deep woods.
But the meet-up post adds, "This is going to be an adventure we'll be talking about for a long time!"
